Excitement is building for another great summer of soccer camp here at Western New England University!

The 2013 Western New England Soccer Academy is holding two weeks of camp this summer. The first week is July 8-12 and the second week is July 15-19.

WNE Soccer Academy Announces New Directors Erin Sullivan and Michael Dias

The Western New England Soccer Academy is proud to announce that the camp will be under new direction this summer as WNE Head Men’s Soccer Coach Erin Sullivan and former Western Mass soccer standout Michael Dias assume the reins in 2013.

Sullivan FormalErin Sullivan has been the Head Men’s Soccer Coach at Western New England since 2000 compiling an impressive 181-83-31 record. His Golden Bear teams have won six conference titles and made seven NCAA Tournament appearances since 2004. Sullivan holds a USSF “A” license and the NSCAA Premier Diploma and has extensive experience directing youth camps and clinics.

 

Dias FormalMichael Dias is one of the top players in Western Mass soccer history, having starred for Cathedral High School and the University of Vermont before playing professionally for the Western Mass Pioneers and a host of other professional clubs. He has been an assistant coach at the University of Vermont and at Western New England and directed summer soccer camps for several of the professional clubs he played for.

Both Sullivan and Dias have extensive coaching and playing experience at the highest levels and have been involved in numerous camps throughout the Northeast. For more information on the camp’s new directors, visit our directors page!

Ron Dias, WNE Head Women’s Soccer Coach and Soccer Academy founder will remain involved in the camp as will many of the camp’s perennial staff members. Check the camp staff page periodically for a list of confirmed counselors for 2013.

Coach Rivet Honored as Recipient of the 2011 Larry Briggs Award

Tom Rivet becomes the latest member of the Soccer Academy staff to receive the prestigious Larry Briggs Award, joining fellow camp directors Ron Dias (2010 recipient) and John Coburn (1995 recipient).  The Pioneer Valley Soccer Association presents the award annually to an individual who exemplifies the high standards and contributions to soccer over a long period of time.  Coach Rivet received the award at the PCSOA banquet on December 2, 2011.

The award is named after Larry Briggs who is recognized by many as the “Father of Soccer Officiating.”  He was the long time coach of the men’s soccer team at the University of Massachusetts.
